LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY FOR COMMUNITY COLLEGES
Join us to advocate for New Jersey’s 18 community colleges. All of our efforts make education accessible and affordable for a more resilient and equitable New Jersey while supporting economic opportunity for all residents and building a skilled workforce to propel economic recovery.
Governor Murphy’s Fiscal Year 2025 proposed State Budget drastically reduces critical state investment in New Jersey’s community colleges. The budget reduces funding by $20 million from the community college sector of higher education. We need your help! Please ask State Legislators to support New Jersey’s community colleges.
Each year, New Jersey’s 18 community colleges educate more than 230,000 New Jerseyans, including more than 4 in 10 of all undergraduate students and over half of public undergraduates. Disproportionately from traditionally underrepresented and low-income backgrounds, New Jersey community college students are often the first in their families to attend college. In addition to high school students, community colleges serve older and working learners, student parents, refugees, immigrants, justice-impacted individuals, unemployed and underemployed individuals, individuals with disabilities, and veterans. Community colleges provide a path to lifelong academic, economic, and career mobility.
Our community college graduates also power the state’s key industries, including health care, technology, infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, and supply chain management. We have launched new programs in AI, film, aseptic manufacturing, drone technology, renewable energy, and other emerging fields. In short, our 18 community colleges play a vital role in supporting equity and economic prosperity in New Jersey.
