Brookdale evaluates and transfers credits from a variety of sources. The common areas of credit transfer are listed below, along with the policies surrounding such transfers.

Colleges and Universities within the United States

For transfer credit to be granted for work done at another college or university within the United States that school must be regionally accredited by one of the following associations:
•    Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools
•    North Central Association of Colleges and Schools
•    New England Association of Schools and Colleges
•    Northwest Association of Colleges and Schools
•    Western Association of Schools and Colleges
•    Southern Association of Colleges and Schools

Institutions outside of the United States

Students who have attended college in a country other than the United States must have their transcripts evaluated by an approved international academic credential evaluation organization. Visit our International Education Center for a complete list of approved international academic credential evaluation organizations.

Students with coursework completed outside of the United States must have a course-by-course evaluation of their college transcripts completed by an approved Academic Credential Evaluation Organization and an official copy of the evaluation sent to:

Non-Traditional Education Sources

Credit may be transferred into Brookdale Community College for work completed outside of the traditional college setting. Military experience, Monmouth County Police Academy graduates, New Jersey Department of Corrections, and some workplace coursework which has been evaluated by the American Council on Education (ACE) or National College Credit Recommendation Service (National CCRS) (formerly known as PONSI) may carry college level credit.

Traditional Transfer Credits: What Comes In?

Transfer Credit Maximums

A transfer student may transfer up to half of their Brookdale degree’s credits from outside sources. Credits may be used to satisfy general education coursework for the degree or to satisfy some of the career studies coursework. At least half of a student’s career studies coursework must be completed here at Brookdale.

Level of Credit

Transfer credit may be granted for classes from the 100 and 200 level coursework. Foundational studies coursework (also known as remedial or developmental coursework) is not transferable. Upper level coursework (300, 400, graduate, and above) is evaluated on an individual basis.

Value of Credit

Brookdale operates on a semester credit system and all transfer work is granted based on semester credit. Any coursework completed under any other system (i.e. quarter hour system) will be converted to semester hours prior to the evaluation.

Grades

Students must earn a grade of C or higher in their previous coursework for it to be considered for transfer. The grade point average, however, will not be transferred into Brookdale.

AP, CLEP and DSST Exams

AP, CLEP and DSST Exams

Brookdale grants credit for acceptable scores from the College Level Examination Program (CLEP), the College Board Advanced Placement (AP) and the DSST exams. Brookdale will perform an evaluation of transfer credits for Brookdale students upon receipt of official score reports. Please log into your WebAdvisor account to see if the evaluation of credits has been performed. Students are encouraged to review their transfer credits with their Academic Counselor to discuss how these credits will impact their academic plans. For an explanation of scores and transfer credits, click here.
