Jean Guerdy Paul, best known as “JP,” has become a prominent figure at Brookdale Community College, where his journey in higher education has been both challenging and rewarding. Originally from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, JP has called Brookdale his home for the past four years, during which he has grown into a well-known leader and active participant in numerous campus activities. His commitment and contributions have earned him affectionate nicknames such as “Mr. Brookdale,” “Mr. Many Hats,” “The Mayor,” and “Mr. Everywhere.”
Reflecting on his journey, JP shares, “My time at Brookdale has been a rollercoaster, but the community here has been a blessing in so many ways. I believe in paying it forward, and it’s time for me to give back to the students what I have received from the college.”
JP’s leadership track record is impressive. He has consistently listened to his peers and advocated for their needs, demonstrating a profound understanding of the student experience and the college’s dynamics. He remarks, “Though I still have a lot to learn, I am confident I have what it takes to serve the student body at Brookdale. As a trustee, I will represent every student and the college to the best of my capacity.”
One of JP’s primary goals is to create a space where the student body feels heard and understood. He plans to regularly engage with student leaders and other students to identify their needs and collaborate with the college to address them. He acknowledges the complexity of leadership, saying, “I know that a leader cannot resolve everybody’s problems, and it takes a lot of wisdom to represent other people. With the help of the Board of Trustees and the college, I am confident I can bear this responsibility.”
JP’s academic pursuits continue. He is currently enrolled in a summer STEM program at NJIT. His passion for mechanical and automotive engineering fuels his drive to succeed and bring innovative ideas to Brookdale’s Board of Trustees.
As JP steps into his role, his dedication and vision promise to enrich the Brookdale community, ensuring that every student’s voice is heard and their needs are met. With his leadership, the college can look forward to a future of continued growth and inclusivity.
