Brookdale Community College has long been a cornerstone of Monmouth County, offering exceptional programs that empower students of all ages to achieve their dreams. As a vital resource for education and community engagement, Brookdale continues to thrive with the support and leadership of dedicated individuals like James W. McCracken, MHA, LNHA, CALA.

Appointed by the Monmouth County Board of Commissioners, McCracken brings over 25 years of experience in senior services and government sectors. As President & Chief Executive Officer of LeadingAge New Jersey & Delaware, he has built a reputation for forging partnerships, advocating for resources, and implementing best practices. His role at Brookdale aligns seamlessly with his career-long dedication to creating opportunities that enhance quality of life and ensure organizational excellence.

McCracken envisions Brookdale as a vital community hub, connecting with local organizations and industries to create opportunities for students. With its strategic focus on partnerships, guided by the commitment of leaders like President David M. Stout, Ph.D., the college is positioned to thrive as a hub for collaboration. “From initiatives like the Made in Monmouth program to major developments like Netflix at Fort Monmouth, our goal is to promote the college and ensure it remains an integral part of the community—not a best-kept secret, but a true gem.”

As chair of the Finance and Facilities Committee, McCracken draws on his expertise in managing multi-million-dollar budgets to develop sustainable financial strategies that ensure Brookdale’s affordability and growth. “Brookdale’s success depends on maintaining a safe campus while ensuring a quality education,” McCracken shared. “I am completely committed to supporting the staff, faculty, and college leadership to ensure we continue on a path of excellence and working with the committee, the board, and Dr. Stout, whose commitment to Brookdale’s success is unwavering to keep education accessible and affordable.”

One of the most inspiring aspects of McCracken’s role is engaging with Brookdale’s students, particularly the student trustee who brings the student body’s voice to every meeting. “Listening to their perspectives reinforces why our work is so important,” he said. “It’s about creating an environment where every student can thrive.”

McCracken’s career has prepared him well for the Board of Trustees role. His strategic insights are already making a tangible impact. Yet, his approach extends beyond strategy—it is deeply rooted in a mission-driven passion for helping others succeed.

“I’ve always been fascinated by and deeply supportive of the opportunities community colleges provide,” McCracken said. “When the chance to serve as a trustee came my way, I was thrilled. It’s been an enjoyable and rewarding experience because it’s a great group of people. Brookdale is a remarkable institution and working alongside such a dedicated and passionate team has been truly inspiring.”

Outside his professional commitments, McCracken is a private pilot, a recreational golfer, and enjoys traveling with his family. His leadership philosophy, shaped by decades of service, is built on passion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to helping others achieve their goals.

Brookdale Community College is fortunate to have James W. McCracken as a trustee, guiding the college toward a future filled with opportunity, collaboration, and success for all who walk through its doors.
