Open to students, faculty, and community members a student led discussion panel “Is This MIC on?” on Feb. 6th @ 11:30AM.
Date: Thursday, February 6th
Time: 11:30 – 1PM
Location: Student Life Center, SLC 106
This panel discussion will explore the need for solidarity between women and marginalized groups as the narratives of misogyny and racism continue to expand. Students are constantly exposed to the intersections of misogyny and racism in its different forms ranging from “Alpha Male” podcasters, mainstream comedians, as well as conversations and comments across social media and streaming platforms. All of these voices don’t solely exist on an internet platform-they transcend it. At times marginalized communities may feel that they are shouting into a void. Representation in all its forms is critical, which ultimately stresses the importance of becoming advocates of diversity. This panel acknowledges the intersections of misogyny and racism and offers a way to move forward, dismantling problematic ideas and histories in which marginalized people are ignored. Our voices will be heard, and we won’t drop the mic!
