Handshake For Employers

We appreciate your interest in employing Brookdale Community College students and alumni!

Brookdale is now on Handshake, the nation’s largest college-to-career network to post your opportunities

Top employers rely on Handshake to find the perfect candidates. Handshake offers employers many great new features to manage all your employment needs at no cost like:

Please note that we will not approve individuals hiring for openings associated with private individuals or residences (e.g. babysitting, gardening, driving, house cleaning, tutoring, moving, painting, maintenance, elder care, etc.), nor do we post positions that require students to outlay monies of any kind or incur unpaid training prior to employment without full upfront disclosure to the candidate.  Job/internship positions in private homes or businesses without a physical location may require additional information, including your Employer Identification Number (EIN) / Federal Tax Identification Number used to identify your business entity.

We reserve the right to deny any internship postings that do not provide learning opportunities for our students or do not meet the requirements outlined below. Please refer to the Department of Labor’s guidelines on internships if you intend to post an internship. Please note that during the COVID-19 pandemic, your site may be required to follow certain federal, state, and local requirements in order to protect health and safety.

Brookdale Community College is an Equal Opportunity educational institution. In order to promote this goal, the College makes positive efforts to ensure equal opportunity to all individuals without regard to race, color, sex, religion, national origin, disability or veteran status.

In line with Brookdale Community College’s commitment to ethical and professional conduct, we require employers utilizing the Career Center to adhere to employment laws and principles of professional practice, as outlined by the federal government and The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Principles for Ethical Professional Practice.

Department of Labor Updated Guidelines on Unpaid Internships

As of January 5, 2018 the Department of Labor has updated their guidelines for determining whether an internship can be unpaid. The new guideline focuses on the Primary Beneficiary Test to ensure that the growth of the intern receives primary benefit of the internship experience. It is also critical that interns not displace the hiring of paid employees to perform functions of the business. Read the new DOL Fact Sheet here: https://www.dol.gov/whd/regs/compliance/whdfs71.htm

We look forward to reviewing your request for approval. Pending employer approvals will be approved within 3-5 business days. If your request has not been processed within a week, please log into Handshake and check your notifications for any comments regarding your job posting.

Thank you again for offering these opportunities to Brookdale students. Please contact our department if you have any questions or would like more information.
