ALCHEMY
Exhibition: September 13, 2024 – December 13, 2024
Opening reception: September 13, 2024
The Caroline Huber Holistic Wellness Center is excited to announce a call for artists for their first group art exhibition. The Wellness Center is seeking work that captures the essence of Alchemy as described below. Artists are invited to submit original work that explores the theme.
With the upcoming election and the state of affairs in the United States, polarization of thought threatens to become the cultural norm. This call for submission invites the diverse community of Brookdale students, faculty and staff to share their visual art works, spoken word, poetry and performance art to address the question, “how can art be used as a tool for inclusivity, especially when it comes to the diversity of thought? And how do we individually and collectively relinquish the view that we are “right” or “correct” about a view compared to those in disagreement?” An alchemist takes elements found in nature and fundamentally changes their essence. With the show, our aspiration is to bridge the gap between opposing viewpoints and respectfully learn from each other.
ELIGIBILITY
- Open to all students, faculty, and staff of Brookdale Community College
- 2-dimensional art – up to 20X30 inches
- Performance art (up to 5 mins in length)
Selected works will be featured in the curated exhibition in the Wellness Center providing a platform for artists in the Brookdale community to showcase their interpretations of the theme
