The Robert J. Collins Arena located on the Lincroft campus is a multi-purpose facility used for fitness and recreation courses, athletics, and community events.  The arena was named in honor of Robert J. Collins in 2002.  Mr. Collins, who passed away in 2008, served 18 years as the County Administrator for Monmouth County and was a member on the Brookdale Community College Foundation Board.  While attending Matawan High School, Collins shined as a star athlete in both baseball and basketball.  His accomplishments on and off the field earned him a spot in his high school’s Hall of Fame years later.

 

The arena contains a 4 lane indoor track on the upper level that is 1/10 of a mile (10 laps = 1 mile).  The track is available for use to current students and community members during operational hours.  The space is also used for fitness and recreation courses, athletic training, and community events.  During these times, it will not be available for general use. 

 

On the lower level, the arena floor serves as the home to the Jersey Blues men’s and women’s basketball teams.  As shown in the Robert J. Collins Arena diagram below, the main floor of the arena has a distinct floor plan and is approximately 17,000 square feet.  The bleacher seating forms the shape of a capital letter “D”, with one straight section, and the rest curved.  The arena can seat approximately 2,100-2,400 spectators.  This space is also used for fitness and recreation courses and athletic/community events.  During these times, it will not be available for general use.

 

Special features of the arena are men’s and women’s basketball locker rooms, administrative offices, athletic training room, weight room, and two classroom meeting areas.  The basketball hoops are portable and the bleachers can be pulled out by sections or pushed in completely.

 

The Collins Arena hosts the Harlem Globetrotters and the Quarterfinals of the Boy’s and Girl’s Shore Conference Basketball Tournament each year.  In addition to basketball games, a wide range of events such as home shows, cheer & dance competitions, martial arts tournaments, and concerts are featured at the arena along with other venues.
