Athletic Department
Brookdale Community College offers a variety of opportunities to participate in competitive sports and athletic activities, on both the intercollegiate and intramural / recreational level. BCC's recreational activities provide a low pressure, fun environment. The intercollegiate athletic program, however, is highly competitive within the Garden State Athletic Conference, Region XIX, and the nation.
Of the nine intercollegiate teams, 3 competed at the National Tournament, 3 were Region Champions, and 4 were Conference Champions. The Softball team tallied its 13th Region XIX Championship in 15 years, and placed 2nd at the NJCAA National Tournament. In 2008, the athletic department also saw the addition of two new programs: Men’s Lacrosse and Women’s Lacrosse. For their inaugural seasons, both teams competed on the club level, but plan to reach full intercollegiate status by the spring of 2009.
The Athletic Department had a total of 145 full-time students participate in intercollegiate athletics this past year. This year, the Jersey Blues have received 52 All-Conference or All-Region honors and had 9 All-Americans. Brookdale also had a two-sport athlete travel to 2 National Championships in 2007-2008; Skye Rubel, of the Jersey Blues’ Tennis and Softball Programs, won the 4th Singles National Championship and helped bring home National Runner-Up Softball Championship Trophy. Her accomplishments also included winning a NAGWS (National Girls & Women in Sports) award for 2008.
The athletic success is complimentary to the academic achievements of the Brookdale Student-Athletes. They excelled academically by receiving 31 Academic All-Region, 39 Academic All Conference, 1 NJCAA Academic All-American, and 2 NJCAA Distinguished Academic All-American honors overall.
